Verily, in the remembrance of Allâh do hearts find rest

Merits of Dhikr
[Remembrance of Allâh]

{…. Verily, in the remembrance of Allâh do hearts find rest} [Al-Rad:28]

In the Quran, Men of Faith have specifically been warned not to forget Dhikr by getting absorbed in the wealth and the family:
{O you who believe! Let not your properties or your children divert you from the remembrance of Allâh. And whosoever does that, then they are the losers} [Al-Munafiqoon:9]

{Woe to those whose hearts are hardened against Remembrance of Allâh! They are in plain error!} [Az-Zumar :22]

Abu Hurairah and Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri (May Allâh be pleased with them) reported: The Messenger of Allâh (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) said, "When a group of people assemble for the remembrance of Allâh, the angels surround them (with their wings), (Allâh's) mercy envelops them, Sakinah, or tranquility descends upon them and Allâh makes a mention of them before those who are near Him.''
Muslim (Book 35, Chapter 11, # 6518)

The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) once visited a gathering of his companions and inquired,
`What has made you assemble here?'
They answered, `We have gathered to remember Allâh and praise Him for having led us to Islam and granted this favour to us.'
The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) inquired,
`Do you affirm by Allâh that it is so?'
The Holy Prophet's Companions affirmed, `By Allâh we are sitting here for this purpose only.'
He (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) said, `I have not put you on oath on account of any doubt, but angel Jibreel had visited me and told me that Allâh felt proud of you among the angels.'"
[Sahih Muslim]

Mu'az (may Allâh be pleased with him) narrated Prophet (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) said: “The Inhabitants of Paradise will not be grief stricken or sorrowful about anything they did in the life of the world except for the time they spent without being in the Remembrance of Allâh” [Tabaraani]

"The difference between the one who remembers his Lord and the one who does not is like the difference between the living and the dead"
[Bukhari]

Abdullah Ibn Busr related that a man once told the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him), "The roads to good are many and I am unable to take all of them, so please tell me something to which I can hold fast, but do not overburden me lest I forget it."
He (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) said, "Make sure that your tongue is moist and supple with the remembrance of Allâh, the Exalted."
[At-Tirmidhi]

Abu Musa (may Allâh be pleased with him) reported Allâh's Apostle (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) as saying: The house in which remembrance of Allâh is made and the house in which Allâh is not remembered are like the living and the dead.
Sahih Muslim (Book 004, #1706)

Abu Huraira (may Allâh be pleased with him) reported Allâh's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) as saying that Allâh, the Exalted and Glorious, thus stated: I am near to the thought of My servant as he thinks about Me, and I am with him as he remembers Me. And if he remembers Me in his heart, I also remember him in My Heart, and if he remembers Me in assembly I remember him in assembly, better than his (remembrance), and if he draws near Me by the span of a palm, I draw near him by the cubit, and if he draws near Me by the cubit I draw near him by the space (covered by) two hands. And if he walks towards Me, I rush towards him.
Sahih Muslim (Book 035, #6471)

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) said: "Is anyone of you incapable of earning one thousand Hasanah (rewards) a day?" Someone from the gathering asked, "How can anyone of us earn a thousand Hasanah?" Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) said: "Glorify Allâh a hundred times by just saying “SubhanAllâh” and a Good deeds will be written for you, or a thousand sins will be wiped away.” [Muslim]

Abu Dharr (may Allâh be pleased with him) narrated that Prophet (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) said: “Should I not tell you of one treasure of the unlimited treasures of Paradise?” I replied spontaneously “Oh RasulAllâh (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) that would be an honour indeed!”
He (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) said:
“That rare treasure is LA HAWLA WA LA QUWWATA ILLA BILLAH.”
(“The strength to do good and to refrain from evil comes from the grace and mercy of Allâh!”) [Ibn Majah]

Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allâh be pleased with him):
Allâh’s Apostle (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) said
, ”Whoever says one hundred times in a day:
“Laa ilaaha illallaah wahdahuu laa shareeka lahu, lahu-l-mulk wa lahu-l-hamd wa huwa ‘alaa kulli shai’in qadeer,”
(“None has the right to be worshipped but Allâh, the Alone Who has no partners, to Him belongs Dominion and to Him belong all the Praises, and He has power over all things (i.e. Omnipotent)”,}
He will get the same reward as given for manumitting ten slaves; and one hundred good deeds will be written in his accounts, and one hundred sins will be deducted from his accounts, and it (his saying) will be a shield for him from Satan on that day till night, and nobody will be able to do a better deed except the one who does more than he.” [Bukhari]

The Mother of the Believers, Juwairiyah bint Al-Harith (may Allâh be pleased with her) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) came out from my apartment in the morning as I was busy in performing the dawn prayer. He came back in the forenoon and found me sitting there. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) said, ”Are you still in the same position as I left you.” I replied in the affirmative. Thereupon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) said, “I recited four phrases three times after I had left you. If these are to be weighed against all you have recited since morning, these will be HEAVIER. These are:

Subhan-Allâh Wa bihamdihi, ‘adada khalqihi, wa rida-a nafsihi, wa zinatah ‘arshihi, wa midada kalimatihi

(Allâh is free from imperfection and I begin with His praise, as many times as the number of His creatures, in accordance with His Good Pleasure, equal to the ink that may be used in recording the words (for His Praise).”
[Muslim]

It was narrated from Abu Dharr (may Allâh be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allâh be upon him) said:
"In the morning charity is due from every bone in the body of every one of you. Every Tasbeehah (saying Subhaan Allâh -Glory be to Allâh) is a charity, every Tahmeedah (saying Al-hamdu Lillaah -praise be to Allâh) is a charity, every tahleelah (saying Laa ilaaha ill-Allâh -There is no god but Allâh) is a charity, every takbeerah (saying Allâhu akbar -Allâh is Most Great) is a charity, enjoining what is good is a charity, forbidding what is evil is a charity, and two Rak’ahs (Nafil) offered in the forenoon is sufficient.” [Muslim]
